The United Bank for Africa National Essay Competition for Ghanaian Secondary School Students [2022]

The United Bank for Africa is Africa’s leading financial institution with a presence beyond the African continent. Just last month, the UBA Group National Essay Competition for Nigerian Secondary School Students came to an end with October 14 being the application deadline.

In the month of November 2022 however, the United Bank of Africa, Ghana has announced a similar competition for Ghanaian Senior Secondary School students. This competition allows students to participate fairly and get rewarded for contributing to matters arising from national crises via their writing skills.

The subject of the Essay Competition for the Year 2022 is:

Sports Betting has become rampant among the youths in the country. What can the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Gaming Commission do to regulate the activities of under-aged persons participating in sports betting.

ESSAY TOPIC

Students are expected to write an essay evolving the subject, providing ideas and preferring solutions to the crisis the subject projects. The article is expected to be handwritten and has a maximum length of 750 words.

The deadline for the United Bank for Africa (UBA Group) National Essay Competition for Ghanaian Secondary School Students is 11th November 2022.

Eligible Country

Citizens of Ghana are eligible to apply.

Level

Senior High School [Secondary-taught Subjects]

Eligibility & Selection Criteria

  • Be a High School Student
  • Must submit a handwritten essay (750 words MAX)
  • Must submit a passport photograph
  • Must submit a copy of a birth certificate, National ID or passport

Selection procedure:

  • Entries received for the competition will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges made up of professors from reputable Ghanaian Universities, who will then shortlist 12 essays for further assessment.
  • Following this, the second round of competition will involve the 10 finalists who will write a second supervised essay from which the three best essays will be selected as the overall winners from the 10 finalists who emerged from the first round of the competition

The number of the 2022 UBA Essay Scholarship Recipients to be awarded by the United Bank for Africa is 3.

Value of Scholarship

  1. 1st Prize: $5000 
  2. 2nd Prize: $3000
  3. 3rd Prize: $2000

(Or it’s local currency equivalent towards tuition/fees in any University in Africa)

Scholarship Duration

The scholarship prize is a one-off payment to the winners and cannot be renewed.

Application Procedure

  • Applicants should send in handwritten essay entries of not more than seven hundred and fifty words on the selected topic to any UBA Ghana Branch or online via this link.
  • Applicants must submit their complete contact information (name & address of the school, telephone number, residential and email addresses). Applicants must attach photocopies of their original birth certificates, National ID or international passport data pages. Entries close on 11th November 2022.
  • Late entries will not be accepted. Applicants must be Senior High School students schooling in Ghana. The educational grant is only applicable to applications who intend to study at an African University. The decision of the judge is final.
